CHAMPIONSHIPS CELEBRATE 75TH ANNIVERSARY;

ST. LOUIS — Nov. 22, 2004 — Attention NCAA wrestling fans:  It’s not too early to make plans to attend the 2005 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, and good seats are still available.  Be there to celebrate the 75th anniversary of college wrestling’s biggest and most exciting event.

At the tournament, fans have the opportunity to see more than 330 of today’s best wrestlers vie for a national championship, and at the same time, celebrate college wrestling’s illustrious history and pay tribute to some of the top grapplers to ever hit the mats.  A celebration is being planned to honor the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships 75th anniversary team, which will include 15 of the all-time greatest collegiate wrestlers.

This marks the second consecutive year, and third time in the past six years, that the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships are being held at Savvis Center.  St. Louis is the first city to host the prestigious tournament in back-to-back years.

Fans can vote online for 75th Anniversary Team…

The St. Louis Sports Commission is working with the NCAA and National Wrestling Coaches Association to organize a 75th anniversary celebration that will take place at Union Station in between sessions three and four on Friday, March 18.  Leading up to the Championships, fans are encouraged to cast their votes for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships 75th anniversary team.  That team will be introduced and honored at the celebration in St. Louis.
